The world is always
in motion

This makes it all the more important to be able to rely on a dedicated expert assessment of the security situation worldwide. Our risk classification provides an important indication of this. Our security map, which we update periodically, represents a snapshot of our risk assessment.

The risk classification is made up of assessments of the following categories:

Entry and exit, transport (plane / air transport, long-distance public transport, local public transport, taxis, cars / rental cars, other means of transport), strike, infrastructure (money, telephone / mobile communications, internet, electricity), health (vaccinations, infection risks, hygiene, health care), natural hazards and the environment, security (crime, demonstrations/unrest, terrorism, armed conflict), economic security (corruption, industrial espionage) and special risks (cultural characteristics, LGBTQ, female travelers, criminal law characteristics and other risks).

A variety of factors therefore play a role in the classification of countries and regions. Countries and regions for which travelers should definitely inform themselves about country-specific risks before a trip are marked using the signal colors orange and red. In principle, however, relevant information is also stored in countries with lower risks for travelers.

Very low risk (dark green)

Travel is generally associated with very low security risks. The country or region can be visited without restrictions.
Violent crime against travelers is rare, and no special precautions are necessary. Terrorist organizations may be present in the country, but only to a very limited extent. Therefore, a general terrorist threat level is not considered here. Violent protests are rare and/or limited to specific areas. There are no major social tensions that lead to violence
.

Low risk (light green)

Travel involves low security risks. The country or region can be visited with few restrictions.
There are risks related to crime and/or demonstrations that may affect travel and require specific precautions. Country-specific factors should therefore be taken into account. For example, travel disruptions may occur due to violent crime or increased protests. Travelers should inform themselves about potential local risks based on situation reports and behavioral guidelines
.

Increased risk (yellow)

Travel involves elevated security risks. However, the country or region can still be visited without extensive precautions.
The security situation is strained due to widespread violent crime and/or other significant risks. Prolonged, violent protests may occur. Travelers should research local risks in advance using situation reports and behavioral guidelines, follow additional safety advice, and remain especially vigilant
.

High risk (orange)

Travel involves high security risks. The country or region can only be visited with significant restrictions. Extensive preparations (e.g., a travel security plan) are required before traveling. Travel to these areas is generally discouraged.
The security situation is extremely tense in some parts of the country due to armed conflicts, terrorist organizations, high levels of violent crime, and/or frequent unrest. Affected areas may also be difficult for travelers to access. Travelers should carefully review situation reports and safety guidance in advance, follow comprehensive precautions, and exercise a high degree of caution. Additional security measures are often required on site
.

Very high risk (red)

Travel involves very high security risks. The country or region can only be visited with severe restrictions or not at all. Comprehensive preparations (e.g., a travel security plan) are essential. Detailed travel planning is mandatory. Travel to these areas is strongly discouraged.
The security situation is extremely tense due to armed conflicts, terrorist organizations, severe violent crime, and/or unrest. Large parts of the country may be under little or no government control. Security forces and emergency services are limited or unavailable. Affected areas may also be difficult to access. You should not travel to these areas without thoroughly researching the risks in advance, strictly following all safety guidance, and exercising extreme caution
