2018-03-20: A storm caused damage and power blackouts in the southern state of Alabama since Monday evening (19 March, local time). Most affected is the city of Jacksonville, which was hit by at least one tornado. Houses were damaged, some of them severely, and trees were uprooted. Multiple people were injured. Extensive damage was also reported from Jacksonville State University. Tornadoes were also spotted in northern Alabama, near Huntsville and Ardmore. The severe weather will further move towards the state of Georgia. Flights at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport were not suspended initially. Flight delays, however, were expected.
Travellers are advised to schedule additional time for their journey, to contact their airline or tour operator about the current flight status in advance to their journey to the airport, to inform themselves via local media and authorities about the current situation on site, to follow instructions from authorities, to exercise caution, and to avoid damaged buildings.
