Update 2019-04-07: According to current reports from Sunday (07 April), the American tourist and her safari guide, who were kidnapped by armed men in the National Park on Tuesday (02 April), were rescued.
Update 2019-04-05: The abduction took place in the Ishasha area, in the southern parts of Queen Elizabeth National Park and in the south-western border area with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The female tourist was kidnapped together with a safari guide. Two Canadian tourists were released shortly after the assault. The kidnappers demanded ransom. The police, army and wildlife authorities have initiated a security operation in the Ishasha area as well as in the districts of Rukungiri and Kanungu. The US Embassy advises against travel to Ishasha during the operation.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Armed clashes are possible during arrests of suspects. Travellers are advised to exercise high caution, to strictly avoid operations of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
