2017-05-04: Northern China is affected by high levels of air pollution due to a major dust storm since Wednesday (03 May). Mostly affected amongst others is the capital Beijing. Authorities issued a red alert. The situation is to continue at least until Friday (05 May). Air traffic disruptions also occur.
Besides the health risk, air pollution can also cause traffic disruptions. Travellers are advised to inform themselves through local media and at environmental authorities about the worst-hit regions. If possible, travellers with chronic respiratory diseases are advised to limit their outdoor activities in case of high levels of air pollution. Air travellers are advised to contact their airline or tour operator about the current flight status in advance to their journey to the airport and to schedule additional time for their journey.
