2018-06-01: According to reports from Friday (01 June), Merapi volcano, located near Yogyakarta in Central Java, has erupted. The ash cloud that was emitted rose to an altitude of approximately six kilometres. The Indonesian civil protection authority subsequently declared the highest alter level (red alert) for air traffic. Although flight operations initially continued normally, flight cancellations may occur due to the danger ash particles pose to flight safety.
Travellers are advised to inform themselves via local media and authorities about the current situation on site, to follow instructions from authorities, to exercise caution, as well as to avoid the surrounding area of the volcano.
