2019-12-25: In the city of Valparaíso in the Valparaiso region, authorities have called for mass evacuation due to a forest fire. At least 80 houses were reportedly destroyed by the forest fire. The hills of Rocuant and San Roque were particularly affected. In order to support the fire-fighting efforts, the water supply is being restricted. The interruption will affect Placilla and Curauma from Tuesday 10:00 p.m. (24 December, local time) and from midnight (local time) the northeastern sector of Villa Alemana and the industrial area of Quilpué. The resumption of supplies will begin on Wednesday at around 07:00 a.m. (25 December, local time).
Travellers need to anticipate local road closures and should inform themselves about the current situation before undertaking overland journeys. Warnings and instructions of local authorities and media should be strictly followed.
