2018-01-03: On Wednesday morning (03 January, local time) a severe power outage hit the northern and north-eastern regions of France, leaving at least 200,000 households without power. Train services were affected. Local authorities have indicated that residual delays and disruptions may affect traffic, including train traffic. According to civil protection at least 15 people were injured, four of them seriously. They were reportedly hit by falling trees or falling objects. In the municipality of Morillon, in the Haute-Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, a skier was killed by a falling tree.
Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to schedule additional time for their journeys, and to follow instructions from authorities.
