Update 2017-08-26: On Friday night (25 August, local time) Hurricane Harvey hit mainland Texas near the city of Corpus Christi. So far the strom has injured multiple people, damaged buildings, infrastructure, uprooted trees and has caused blackouts in several cities. Especially affected is the city of Rockport. Due to the unknown impact and durance of the hurricane, a state of emergency has been issued for the state of Texas. Up to 100 cm of rain is expected to fall. On Saturday morning (26 August, local time) the storm was downgraded to Category 3 after winds dropped slightly to 125mph (201km/h).
Still the Hurricane can cause major damage to building structures. Floods and landslides are to be expected in the affected areas. Power outages and water shortages are possible. Continuous severe rainfall and disruptions in flight traffic are to be expected.

Update 2017-08-25: On Friday (25 August) due to the increasing threat of Hurricane Harvey, authorities declared a preemptive state of disaster in 30 counties, including Harris County, Houston. The city of Corpus Christi ordered a voluntary evacuation, while the nearby cities of Port Arkansas and Arkansas Pass ordered mandatory evacuations. Several other municipalities in Texas also ordered evacuations. Dozens of flights from airports in Texas have been cancelled. If forecasts hold, Harvey would be the strongest hurricane to hit the US mainland in 12 years.

Update 2017-08-24 (2): Harvey has gained further strength, and is now forecast to make landfall overnight Saturday (25/26 August, local time), near Corpus Christi, with wind speeds of up to 185 km/h, and gusts of up to 222 km/h, a category 3 hurricane.
The Hurricane can cause major damage to building structures. A storm tide of up to 3.8 meter above average is possible. Residents living within 400 meters of the coastline are advised to take shelter against coastal floodings. Floods and landslides are to be expected in the affected areas. Power outages and water shortages are possible. Already beforehand severe rainfall and disruptions in flight traffic are to be expected.
Update 2017-08-24 (1): Tropical Storm Harvey gained strength and will make landfall with a windspeed of 120 kmph (with gusts reaching 148 kmph) near Corpus Christi on Saturday (26 August), according to current forecasts. This is equivalent to a category 1 hurricane.
The hurricane can cause minor damage to building structures; a storm tide of up to 1.5 meter above average is possible. Due to heavy rainfalls and rise of water level, coastal flooding is possible.

2017-08-23: A tropical storm developed in the Gulf of Mexico, which is forecast to hit the south-eastern coastal areas of Texas on Friday (25 August).
Heavy rainfalls are to be expected beforehand, which may cause floods, flash floods and landslides. Due to high winds, storm damage is possible in the areas directly affected by the tropical storm. (Air-)Traffic disruptions are to be expected. Travellers are advised to exercise elevated caution near mountainsides and rivers.
