2017-01-07: Heavy snowfall causes major disruptions in Istanbul's public life on Saturday (07 January). The snow fell up to 40 cm high at some places. Especially traffic is affected. Streets were blocked by the snow. Shipping had to be stopped through Bosporus Strait due to low visibility. Hundreds of flights had to be cancelled at both Istanbul's airports Ataturk and Sabiah-Gökcen. Further snowfalls are forecast for the next week.
