Update 2019-08-28: According to recent reports, two people died in the prefectures of Saga and Fukuoka as a result of the rains. About 670,000 people were ordered to leave their homes.
2019-08-28: Heavy rainfalls are occurring in the southern regions of Kyūshū, Chūgoku, and Shikoku since Wednesday (28 August). Most affected are Saga, Fukuoka, and Nagasaki prefectures in northern Kyūshū. Around 240,000 people are affected by evacuation orders and authorities issued warnings against floods and landslides. Road traffic and railway services are partly disrupted.
Travellers are advised to inform themselves via local media and authorities about the current situation on site, to follow instructions from authorities, to exercise high caution near mountainsides and rivers, as well as to avoid damaged buildings, bridges, and roads.
