Update 2019-04-16: The structure of the cathedral could probably be saved, according to current reports from the Paris Fire Brigade. Several precious artefacts and relics were safeguarded. The roof was completely destroyed and the cathedral suffered extensive damage. One firefighter was severely injured. Parts of the cathedral are still at risk of collapsing and the fire continued to burn in the evening hours. It was probably caused by accident.
The damage assessment is expected to take several days.

Update 2019-04-15: According to recent reports, the inland island where the Notre-Dame Cathedral is located was evacuated. About 1,000 people were taken to emergency shelters. When the fire broke out, there were no visitors at the tourist attraction.
