2017-07-06: 24 truck drivers travelling in a convoy from Tanzania were kidnapped in Lulimba, in the eastern province of South Kivu, by local Mai-Mai militias on 29 June, according to a statement from the Tanzanian foreign ministry from Wednesday (05 July). 21 Tanzanian nationals and three Kenyans are among the victims. The convoy was on the way to the Namoya gold mine in Maniema province.
According to a statement from the Congolese army, multiple people were killed in clashes with Mai-Mai militias in the Misisi area of South Kivu.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Armed clashes are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise high caution, to strictly avoid operations of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
