Update 2020-02-04: Due to the persistent bad weather conditions, the evacuation of the tourists stranded in Milford Sound cannot start until Wednesday (05 February). Many roads in the region remain closed due to the damage caused by flash floods.
2020-02-03: a SH94 will remain closed for at least a week, according to initial reports. The road was damaged in several places by flooding and landslides. At Milford Sound fiord, an area famous with tourists, hundreds of travellers are stranded.
Travellers are advised to inform themselves via local media and authorities about the current situation on site, to follow instructions from authorities, to exercise high caution near mountainsides and rivers, as well as to avoid damaged buildings, bridges, and roads.
