Update 2016-10-05: At least five people were killed with one more person remaining missing after typhoon Chaba hit the island of Jeju and the Southern Coastline of South Korea on Tuesday afternoon (04 October, local time). Two people were killed in Busan, two in Ulsan and one more in Jeju in storm-related incidents. Floods and landslides caused significant traffic disruptions, uprooted trees blocked roads. International and domestic flights were cancelled and several hundred people evacuated. Approximately 52,000 households lost power.
Further floods, landslides and (air-)traffic disruptions are to be expected. Travellers should proceed with caution, in particular close to mountainsides and riverbeds, and follow instructions by local authorities.

2016-10-04: Typhoon Chaba is forecast to strike the island of Jeju on Wednesday (05 October) in the early morning (local time), before moving toward the southern coastline of South Korea. The maximum sustained winds are 185km/h, with gusts of up to 231km/h, equivalent to a category 3 hurricane.
Already beforehand heavy rainfalls are to be expected. The typhoon can cause major damage to building structures. A storm tide of up to 3.8 meter above average is possible. Residents living within 400 meters of the coastline are advised to take shelter against coastal floodings. Floods and landslides are to be expected in the affected areas. Power outages and water shortages are possible.
