Update 2019-10-22: The protests have spread all over the country. The cities affected include Sucre, Potosi, Oruro, Tarija, Cochabamba and Cobija. Security forces are trying to disperse the protests. In Potosi, an election commission office and several local government offices were damaged.
2019-10-22: On Monday evening (21 October, local time) violent demonstrations broke out in the capital La Paz. The reason for this is the government's reluctance to announce the official election results and the opposition's decision not to recognise the results in advance. An office of the election commission was set on fire. There were clashes between the supporters of the two presidential candidates.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
