Update 2020-10-13: Fighting between the Taliban and security forces in Helmand province is reportedly continuing. Throughout the province, traffic is severely restricted because several traffic routes have been destroyed. Disruptions in the power supply must also be expected. The Afghan military is now supported by air strikes by US troops.
Update 2020-10-12: According to reports on Monday (12 October), several members of the security forces and at least 70 Taliban were killed in the clashes. The fighting near Lashkargah continues. The Nad Ali District was overrun and police stations in the outskirts of the city were also taken by the Taliban. In addition, on Sunday (11 October) a road connecting Kabul and Helmand Province was blocked.
2020-10-12: The Taliban started an offensive in the southern province of Helmand since Saturday evening (10 October, local time). Most affected are areas west of Helmand River near Lashkargah.
Armed clashes and attacks are to be expected in Afghanistan for the time being. Travellers are advised to exercise high caution and to follow instructions from security forces.
