Update 2017-11-20: On Monday (20 November) the ruling party ZANU PF officially initiated impeachment procedures against president Mugabe, following his refusal to step down. Currently the situation in Harare is stable and calm. For Wednesday (22 November) further mass protests have been scheduled to take place on the Robert-Mugabe-Square in Harare's inner city. The German Federal Foreign Office strongly urges travellers to avoid the demonstrations.
Update 2017-10-27: On Friday (27 October) the Catalan regional government has formally voted for secession from Spain, a move which the Spanish government has declared unconstitutional. Spain has announced its intentions to take direct control of Catalonia, including the control of all executive powers, and dismiss the current Catalan government. Demonstrations and protests with several thousand participants have been taking place in Barcelona and other cities in Catalonia, and are likely to continue.
15.04.2017: In Venezuela kommt es im Rahmen von politischen Unruhen und einer anhaltenden Wirtschaftskrise zu anhaltenden gewaltsamen Protesten und Unruhen, bei denen bereits mehrere Personen getötet wurden. Die nächsten großen Proteste sind für Mittwoch (19.04.) angekündigt. Durch einen Ausnahmezustand sind die Befugnisse von Polizei und Militär ausgeweitet. Der oberste Gerichtshof sowie die Regierung haben die Macht des Präsidenten Maduro vergrößert, und versucht, das nationale Parlament zu entmachten.
2017-04-15: In the context of political instability and a persistent economic crisis, violent protests and unrest are taking place across Venezuela, during which several protesters have already been killed. The next mass protests have been scheduled for Wednesday (19 April). Due to a countrywide state of emergency, the powers of security forces, including the military, have been increased significantly. The supreme court and the government have sought to increase the competencies of president Maduro and attempted to deprive the parliament of its powers and rights.
Update 2016-07-18: Putschists at Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport resisted arrest on Sunday (17 July). Loyalists security forces proposed warning shots before it had come to the arrests. On the air base in the central Anatolian Konya there were also clashes on Sunday (17 July). According to the Foreign Ministry the number of deaths in the failed coup attempt in Turkey has risen to nearly 300. According to the authorities on Sunday (17 July, local time) more than 100 rebels and at least 190 civilians were killed. More than 1,400 people were injured.
